Adrian Burnett

Mixed Media

IG @dabudzman246

FB dabudzman.burnett

(246) 830-9169

Adrian Burnett is a multidisciplinary artist whose work is deeply rooted in environmental consciousness, the transformative power of upcycling, and the complexity of human experience.

Passionate about texture, form, and pattern, he creates bold mixed-media pieces using found and repurposed materials - breathing new life into the discarded and overlooked. His work reflects a deep reverence for nature, often drawing from organic textures, weathered surfaces, and natural decay to explore the ongoing dialogue between humanity and the environment.

Beyond the environmental, Adrian’s art also delves into the duality of life and the human condition, engaging with themes of gender, anatomy, and identity. Through abstract and symbolic representation, he examines the biological and emotional dimensions of both the female and male forms, exploring the contrasts, connections, and fluidities between them. His pieces become layered narratives - simultaneously raw and refined - that honour both the physical and metaphysical aspects of being. With a keen eye for overlooked detail and a love for the tactile, Adrian’s work challenges viewers to see the world - and themselves - with fresh curiosity and depth.

Candi Nicholls | Mosaic Artist

Best known for her work in fashion, Candi Nicholls discovered mosaic while working as a model agent in Miami. What began with a ceramics class quickly became a 20-year creative obsession.

While she occasionally incorporates commercially made tiles, Candi’s signature is her handmade tile work, crafted from 100% Barbadian clay. Each tile is shaped by hand, bringing texture, colour and an unmistakably Barbadian character to her mosaics.

For Candi, clay is more than a medium. It is a connection to place, transformed by hand into art.

I am an artist, art educator and passionate photographer, born in Berlin, Germany. I studied Fine Arts/Photography at the University of Art in Leipzig and worked as a freelance photographer and as a photo-editor for a daily newspaper (TAZ) in Berlin, Germany. About 33 years ago, I made beautiful Barbados my home, and have worked as the art teacher of the Codrington School, the International School of Barbados, for 20 years. In the late 90ies, I did run a small art gallery and art-and-craft-shop in Baystreet, called the Perseverance House of Art. In 2013 I received the ECIS (European Council of International Schools) Award for the Promotion of International Education. Over the years, I have participated in many art and photography exhibitions in Germany and in Barbados. Now retired from working full time as an art teacher, I do have the time to focus on my very own creative endeavors and to actively follow my life-long interest in Fine Art Photography, Painting and Collage. I especially love Black-and-White and Portraiture Photography. I also love to explore the endless opportunities of mixing and combining different media. Art is my Life-Line.

Creativity has always been a part of my life from a very young age. My grandmother painted, flower arranged and embroidered the most beautiful dresses when we were growing up. I first took my artistic interests seriously when I was introduced to photography in my latter years at secondary school, but it was not until I decided to leave the shores of Barbados in my twenties to travel that I finally followed my dream to make my hobby into a full time career.

I spent 6 years in England where I pursued my photography and continued to degree level in

Graphic Design at Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design in London, specializing in Illustration.

It was during this time in England being away from my home that I truly appreciated the peacefulness and beauty of Barbados. I often drive around the island taking photographs, sketching and gathering information.

From this information I paint, draw and create images that capture a feeling of the people and their land. I have produced a line of products from my art work and my prints and T Shirts can be found in many souvenir and gift shops on the island. I am well known for my cricket series. I love colour and when painting and illustrating I use bold colours, quick strokes and simple shapes to capture a feeling. It is in this simplicity that the beauty of what I see is reflected.

I am a marine biologist, ceramicist, and environmental artist whose work blends scientific insight with creative expression. I earned my PhD in marine biology from Victoria University of Wellington, researching sponge ecology at the remote Palmyra Atoll. After completing my doctorate, I moved to Hawai‘i for a postdoctoral fellowship focused on coral restoration and reef ecology. It was there, eight years ago, that I first discovered ceramics—a practice that has since become a vital part of my life. I am a handbuilder who primarily enjoys sculpting, often inspired by the intricate forms, textures, and rhythms of the ocean—especially overlooked creatures often seen as less beautiful. I like all my pieces to spark joy, whether conveying a message or simply celebrating beauty. Now based in Barbados, I explore the meeting point between art and science, creating work that invites curiosity, fosters appreciation, and encourages care for our oceans.

My love of art was originally kindled by my Grandmother, jenny, who was herself an artist. She encouraged my parents to send me to oil painting lessons even before I understood the meaning if the word creative. There I discovered that i truly enjoyed painting; and art became an important factor in my life. After my secondary education in Barbados I I enrolled in a Graphic course in Canada. A career in graphics followed. Around 1993 the fine artist in me resurfaced when I joined Indrani Whittingham and the Newcomers Art Group, Over the years I have experimented with Oils, Acrylics and Watercolour. My work leans strongly toward realism. I enjoy creating images where the strong sunlight of the tropics interacts with the bright colours of the island, usually playing hide and seek as it were with highlights and shadows of natural and man made objects and landscapes.

Barbadian born Lorna B. Wilson’s artistic career took off in 2010, when she joined a fundraising
group exhibition for the victims of the Haiti earthquake. The positive response to her submission
encouraged her to develop her talent through courses and workshops and ultimately dive into
the world of art on a full time basis. Wilson’s lifelong fascination with the ocean has been an
enduring inspiration and much of her work celebrates the beauty of the marine environments
surrounding her native Barbados.
She aims not only to capture the essence of nature, but also to stimulate conversation around
environmental conservation. Always endeavouring to paint the overlooked and unseen, she seeks
to reveal the hidden beauty within. Wilson uses acrylic paints and a palette knife and often
incorporates organic materials to create layers and textures in her paintings.
Wilson’s artistic achievements include gaining first prize at the prestigious Carmichael Prize
Exhibition in 2023 and a bronze medal at the National Independence Festival Of Creative
Arts(NIFCA) in 2015. Her paintings have found favour with private collectors around the world
and is shown at various galleries in Barbados. A portion of Wilson’s art sales are dedicated to
charitable causes, thus reinforcing her commitment to making a positive impact through her art.

Maria Stanford is Barbadian artist whose work explores the subtlety of everyday island life. Her expressionistic style is shaped by the rhythms of island living and the visual language of contemporary Caribbean culture.
Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, Maria employs layered colour, texture, and mark-making to build compositions that balance immediacy with deliberation. The fast-drying nature of acrylic allows for an intuitive process, while careful revisions give the work its depth and quiet complexity. Her paintings often engage figures in landscapes and seascapes. She is interested in how colour and surface can carry emotion and meaning without overt narration.
Currently, she is developing a body of work that further examines the relationship between memory and environment, exploring island spaces as they are seen, remembered, and reimagined.

My name is Michelle Greaves, and I’m married with two children. I worked in the banking profession for 24 years until November 2006, before becoming a fulltime homemaker and enjoying the therapeutic release I receive from my pottery passion.

My interest in pottery first started in April 2002, when I received a gift of pottery classes from my sister Kelley. Under the watchful eye of Gloria Chung at the Barbados Community College, I was encouraged to release whatever hidden talent I may have. It is so satisfying to be a part of the process which takes a ball of raw clay and turns it into a work of art, or even a functional piece. I am intrigued by contrasts, whether in textures or colours found in nature or design.

I have showcased my work locally at the Museum’s Craft Fair, Holders’ Season, Cariba Restaurant in St. James, the Barbados Horticultural Society Flower Show, BMEX, the Repeat Visitor Receptions held at Ilaro Court, Bridgetown Market, Holetown Festival, Limegrove Craft Fairs, ATSB 2020, 2024, 2025 and 2026, the Crop-Over Visual Arts Exhibitions, NIFCA 2025

I started painting after I moved from England to Barbados in 2007. I love all mediums, so I mostly mixed them all together.

I am not interested in spending time recreating my
surroundings which are already perfect visually. I like to create from whatever pops into my head and that is normally quite weird. I have painted a lot of people and won A Carmichael Prize Award for two of them. The faces are such a fantastic challenge, to get
them looking back at you is a joy. But after such a challenge I need to do something abstract, so my art is very varied. I do not have a theme to my art; I just go with whatever makes me smile. I love to just start creating and see where it takes me, my studio is my

(246) 230-2028

I am a self‑taught painter who has built my practice through personal exploration and a handful of courses taken along the way. My work uses colour, with soft natural movement, often bringing together abstract elements and impressionistic figures. Themes of nature, music, and everyday human moments appear throughout my paintings, captured through layered brushwork and a focus on mood rather than precision. Guided by curiosity and a genuine love of making, I create pieces that feel open, textured, and quietly emotive.

Sian Pampellonne is a third-generation mixed media artist based in Barbados, whose work explores the "energy" found beneath life's facades. Mentored by her grandfather, Sian developed a tactile, experimental style that rejects traditional realism in favour of raw emotional expression. Her process is deeply immersive, incorporating acrylics alongside "found treasures"—shattered windscreens, discarded blocks, and textiles—that add a physical, three-dimensional layer to her narratives.

Each piece serves as a vessel for growth and discovery, processing history and humanity against the backdrop of the world. While her recent work reflects a refined, introspective evolution, it remains anchored in the bold, vibrant spirit that has made her a favourite among international collectors. Sian’s work can be found in galleries across the Caribbean and in private collections worldwide.

Stephen Scott

Wood

+1 (241) 626-7764

Stephen Scott started carving in Barbados as a teenager. Entirely self-taught he was soon winning awards for his work in mahogany at the National Cultural Foundation’s Crop Over Visual Arts exhibition and their annual NIFCA festival.

After moving to London in 2001 he trained at Camberwell College of Arts and went on to study historic wood carving at the City & Guilds of London Art School.

Stephen has had a varied career, combining tuition with his own studio work. As a tutor he has run classes at London’s Good Life Centre and on the Greek island of Vasiliki for Woodcarvers Greece. He enjoys teaching others the craft of wood carving as much as producing his own work.

Now back home in Chancery Lane, Stephen is a keen gardener. Maybe he is cultivating trees to provide material for generations of future wood carvers!

Most of his work is created either from Barbados mahogany or from English oak and lime. Today he is also experimenting with less traditional woods like that of the local neem tree.

Stephenson (Steve) Carter, a former engineer, transitioned his precision and problem-solving skills into fine woodworking, making it his full-time pursuit in 2013 with the founding of Craftworx Designs. Passionate about showcasing the rich variety of woods grown in Barbados—beyond the well-known Barbados Mahogany—he crafts unique hand turned pens, sculptures, jewelry boxes, charcuterie boards, bowls, and other functional art pieces. Often blending multiple wood types in a single creation, Steve reveals the natural beauty of their grain and how they harmonize together. Committed to sustainability, he works exclusively with locally sourced woods and never uses stains, allowing the natural striations and tones to shine through. His work not only produces striking, one-of-a-kind designs but also fosters a deeper appreciation for the diverse hardwoods grown in Barbados.

Having seen many local woods being discarded, Steve recognized their overlooked beauty and, as an artist, set out to transform these lesser-known Barbadian grown species into true works of art. Through his creations, he has continually educated others on the unique grain, colour, and character of each wood species he uses, often surprising those who only associate Barbados with Mahogany. Over time, Steve has expanded his repertoire, enjoying the process of woodturning on the lathe to produce functional bowls, vases, platters, and other beautiful sculptural and utilitarian pieces.

Born in Barbados in December 1958, Suzanne Davis has always had a deep connection to the Caribbean.

She spent part of her childhood in Trinidad before returning to Barbados. After marrying, she lived in Canada for nine years, where her two daughters were born, before returning home to Barbados to raise her son.

Today, Suzanne is a proud grandmother to one grandson and twin granddaughters.

For over 38 years, Suzanne has built a successful career in Barbadian real estate as the owner of Luxe Caribbean Properties. Her passion for Barbados shines through in everything she does, and she takes great pride in helping people find the perfect home, whether they’re buying, selling, or renting.
Suzanne’s artistic journey began unexpectedly at a Rotary event held at the Gallery of Caribbean Art, where she met renowned artist Indrani Wittingham during what is now known as a ‘Cork and Canvas’evening. Encouraged by Indrani to explore her creative side, Suzanne joined her classes and studied under her for several years, developing her skills in oil painting before Indrani relocated to Canada.
She later attended workshops with a respected Canadian Barbadian artist, Heidi Berger where she discovered acrylic painting. Inspired by the versatility and vibrancy of the medium, Suzanne embraced acrylics and has never looked back.

Today, Suzanne is a member of the popular Love of Art Paint Group, mentored by talented Barbadian artist and tutor Tracey Williams. Through continuing learning and experimentation, she has expanded her artistic style to include acrylics, fluid art, poured paints, and mixed media techniques.

Nature is Suzanne’s greatest inspiration. Her work celebrates flowers, animals, dancers, underwater worlds, and cherished family moments, often interpreted through an abstract lens. Using high-flow acrylics and mixed media, she creates bold, expressive paintings filled with vibrant colour, movement, and joy.

For Suzanne, painting is more than a hobby, it’s a creative expression of her love for life, family, nature, and the beauty of the Caribbean.

I have been painting since I was five years old, inspired by my grandfather, a German artist who migrated to Venezuela and passed on to me his love for art. From those early years, creativity became not just something I did, but something I lived.
Born in Venezuela and living in Barbados since 1998, I draw deep inspiration from the real world around me. Painting en plein air is my greatest love — capturing light, movement, and atmosphere directly from life. I am especially drawn to vibrant color and expressive, whimsical portraits of women, celebrating strength, beauty, and spirit. When I am not painting outdoors, I work from my imagination, my own photography, and references from books and magazines.
My first solo exhibition was held in 2014 at Drift Bar & Restaurant. Since then, I have participated annually in the Carmichael Prize Exhibition, earning First Runner-Up in 2024 and a Bronze Medal at NIFCA in 2025.
In 2026, I step fully into my journey as a full-time artist. This new chapter represents courage, faith, and a lifelong dream unfolding. I look forward to deepening my exploration of color, light, and storytelling through paint — and to sharing that journey with my community and beyond.
